Free stuff for a good home!
Who said there's no such thing as a free puppy? There is a TON of free software on the Internet. Some are excellent, and some that are not exactly masterpieces, to put it kindly... The list below contains a small list of free, (or nearly free) software I have personally tested over the years. Please remember, however, that people have spend a lot of hours writing these programs. If you can spare a buck or a "thank you" note, please let them that you appreciate their hard work. This is by no means a comprehensive list. It is just a way for me to sread the word about the good stuff out there. Enjoy! Bastian
WEB SERVERS / WEB AUTHORINGSimply the BEST Web Server. Period. Complicated if you are not familiar with computers, but definetely worth learning if you are serious about this web business... If you would like to try Apache but have no clue of where to start, try XAMPP. It is an easier to use bundle that includes Apache, Filezilla, MySQL, PHP, Perl, Mercury Mail and a bunch of other stuff... Plone is an open-source Content Management System (CMS) based on the ZOPE platform. This website built using Plone, on top of Zope and Apache. OFFICEAlthough it is tough to beat MS-Office, Open Office can be a good replacement, if you choose to take a stand and save the 500 bucks.
